The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University is a large Grade III-A general hospital integrating medical care, teaching and research. Its own introduction says it was founded in 1909, and was successively named the Japanese Red Cross Society Fengtian Hospital, the Liaoning Hospital of the Chinese Red Cross, the Inner Medicine College of China Medical University and the Shenyang Railway Bureau Central Hospital before returning to China Medical University management on 10 October 2004. It runs two campuses, the Chongshan and Heping campuses.

The hospital's introduction reports 1,800 authorised beds and 1,577 open beds, 950,200 outpatient and emergency visits a year including 846,200 outpatient and 104,000 emergency attendances, 64,400 discharges and 20,484 operations. It names one national key clinical specialty, general surgery, and 19 provincial key clinical specialties, and states that ophthalmology, general surgery, urology, endocrinology and neurology were all nominated in the China Hospital Rankings regional specialty reputation list for Northeast China.

It also says the hospital has 2,345 staff, 18 doctoral supervisors, 178 master's supervisors and more than 260 senior-titled staff, and that in 2024 it passed level five of the national electronic medical record system grading.
