Most sites tell you there is a "number one hospital" in China.

There isn't one — and knowing why is the single most useful thing on this site. China's leading hospital reputation ranking stopped publishing first, second and third places years ago. It now assigns letter grades (A++++ to A) and states explicitly that hospitals sharing a grade are not ordered.

What we do publish

  • • Specialty rankings with real positions (1st–10th), attributed
  • • Letter grades with the source and year attached
  • • Official national cost averages from the health commission

What we refuse to do

  • • Invent a number to fill a gap
  • • Call a hospital "#1" when the source does not
  • • Present an estimate as a quote

Official cost baseline (2025 data)

National Health Commission average, all patients nationwide

Per admission, tertiary (Grade III) hospitals
¥11,539.7≈ $1,614
Per inpatient day, tertiary
¥1,517.6

International departments are set self-pay in a private or international ward, and the communiqué has no private-ward line item at all — so expect to pay more than either figure. Full cost guide

International departments are priced separately by each hospital and run higher. Use this as a floor, not a quote.

Best-documented hospitals

Ordered by how thoroughly we have documented each hospital, weighted toward the things you can act on: a reputation ranking we could source, an international department we have on record, and a complete profile. This is an editorial ordering aid, not a clinical quality rating.
