China-Japan Friendship Hospital

Built through Chinese–Japanese government cooperation, China-Japan Friendship Hospital hosts the National Center for Respiratory Medicine (国家呼吸医学中心). For respiratory and critical-care disease — including severe asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease and difficult-to-diagnose chest conditions — it is the centre of reference in China.

It also runs dedicated international obstetrics and gynaecology wards, and combines respiratory care with integrated Chinese–Western medicine, organ transplantation and comprehensive tumour treatment.

Verification note: encyclopaedia sources describe this as a Grade III-A hospital directly under the NHC, but we could not reach an official page stating the designation in the sources we hold. We publish it as Grade III-A on that basis and flag it as worth confirming directly.

Before you rely on this: Inpatients in the China-Japan Friendship Hospital international department may not leave the hospital or stay overnight outside it, and if they do the hospital treats it as a discharge at the patient's own request - so a patient who expects to recover in a nearby hotel is the wrong fit for this department. Inpatients also cannot bring in an outside doctor or take medication on their own, and any medicine bought elsewhere must be agreed with the attending physician first.

The international department is on the east side of the main building. If you are a Japanese or Korean speaker this hospital has particular value — the collaboration origin left a lasting Japanese-language service capability.
