Overview

Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital, which is also the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang Medical College, was founded in 1897 as the first Western medicine hospital in Nanchang. Its own introduction says it is a Grade III-A general hospital directly under the Jiangxi Provincial Health Commission, integrating medical care, health care, research, teaching, health management and national emergency medical rescue, and that it comprises the Jiangxi Provincial Cardiovascular Hospital, the Jiangxi Provincial Geriatric Hospital, the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanchang Medical College and the hospital's Internet Hospital.

The hospital's introduction says it has two campuses, the Aiguo Road and Honggutan campuses, with 2,764 open beds and more than 270 experts holding national or provincial titles. It names eight national key clinical specialties — neurology, cardiology, gastroenterology, respiratory and critical care medicine, organ transplantation, gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics and neurosurgery — 14 provincial key clinical specialties, 11 provincial leading medical disciplines, 11 provincial medical quality control centres and five national platform branch centres.

The hospital's introduction says the organ transplantation department began with the first kidney transplant in 1994 and is the earliest in the province licensed to perform heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and intestine transplants, and that heart transplantation has been performed independently 35 times since September 2023. It also says neurology, in co-operation with Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, won approval for the National Neurological Disease Regional Medical Center — 'Xiangya Hospital of Jiangxi' — and that it fully manages the hospitals of Jinxian, Zixi and Poyang counties.
