A Grade III-A hospital administered directly by the National Health Commission and the third clinical college of Tongji Medical College, with a speciality in the diseases of the aged — the only hospital in Hubei province licensed as such, by its own account. It opened on 1 July 1981, joined Tongji Medical University in 1997 as its third affiliated hospital and third clinical college, and took its present name in 2000.
It publishes 33 clinical and medical-technical departments, of which 老年病科 and 精神心理科 are provincial key specialities, and it says its diabetic-foot and chronic-wound service is among the country's leading, with the province's centre for chronic wounds and diabetic foot based at the hospital.
