Union Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Founded in 1866 by the London Missionary Society as Hankow Renji Hospital and renamed Hankow Union Hospital in 1928, Union Hospital is the sister institution to Tongji Hospital within the same medical college, and is its first clinical college. It holds 10 national key disciplines and 25 national key clinical specialties — among the highest counts in China — across roughly 5,000 beds, 57 clinical and medical-technology laboratories and more than 8,000 staff, with five academicians.

Heart transplantation has led the country for five consecutive years, alongside heart–lung joint transplantation, conjoined-twin separation, marrow transplant and cellular therapy at national-leading level. The hospital has built extensive exchange relationships with more than 20 countries including Germany, the UK, the US and Japan.
