On the evidence we hold, this is among the most internationally-ready hospitals in China, and that is not a marketing judgement — it rests on three facts that very few Chinese public hospitals can match.
First, it is the first public hospital in China to pass JCI accreditation (and per its own description, the first to pass both JCI and "magnetic hospital" certification). Second, it is the first large public comprehensive hospital to join the Mayo Clinic medical alliance. Third, it combines a full English website, a named international unit, and published contact details — phone, email, and floor-level addresses for outpatient, inpatient and emergency — which is a combination we have rarely seen.
It was founded in 1994 through a donation by Sir Run Run Shaw with matching support from the Zhejiang provincial government, and operates five campuses. Its International Healthcare Center, established January 2016 as a joint venture, runs outpatient services at two campuses, inpatient on two towers, and a dedicated emergency service.
If you want the least friction of any hospital in China, this is a strong place to start.
Before you rely on this: The emergency centre does not direct-bill insurance. The hospital's own patient guide says the patient must pay in full up front and then claim reimbursement from their own insurer, with the emergency centre only supplying bilingual paperwork afterwards - so a patient without cash or a reimbursement route should not rely on this hospital for emergency care.
