Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital

Tianjin Cancer Hospital is where Chinese oncology began. It traces its lineage to 1861, the medical department of the British garrison in the Tianjin concession, transferred to the London Missionary Society in 1868 and taken over by the missionary physician James Cantlie — renamed the Dr Cantlie Memorial Hospital in 1924. In 1952 it established China's first oncology department, under Professor Jin Xianzha, which is why it is the origin point of oncology as a discipline in the PRC.

It is a specialist Grade III-A cancer hospital hosting the National Clinical Medical Research Centre for Malignant Tumours.

Its International Medical Department (国际医疗部) was established on 18 August 2025 — recent enough that it is not yet widely listed — comprising an outpatient clinic and an inpatient ward with a team drawn from the hospital's leading oncology specialists, and it runs direct billing with commercial insurance (商保直付).
