Zhongshan Hospital opened in 1937 and is one of the earliest large general hospitals created and managed by Chinese people. It is a Fudan University teaching hospital.

It is a research powerhouse: 13 national key disciplines, one national clinical medical research centre, eight provincial and ministerial engineering research centres and six provincial key laboratories, with three Chinese Academy of Sciences and two Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians and more than 700 senior-title staff. It runs 18 doctoral and 21 master's graduate programmes and 20 NHC-approved residency training bases.

It combines the comprehensive strength of Zhongshan Hospital's top medical education and research. The hospital's own page introduces the unit's clinical team as its multidisciplinary team (MDT): the consultants staffing it are the hospital's own senior and academician-ranked clinicians, and the professional medical team led by the hospital's leading specialists gives patients safe and high-quality care. It provides health checks, outpatient clinics and inpatient treatment. It runs a multilingual service, accepts payment in foreign currency and by overseas transfer, and has direct-billing arrangements with a number of domestic and foreign commercial insurers. A dedicated car park can be booked one working day in advance by phone or email.

Getting to Shanghai

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (also SHA, Hongqiao)

Pudong is ~60 min by Maglev or metro Line 2 to central hospitals. Hongqiao is far closer (~20-30 min) and often more convenient for medical travel. Note Pudong and Hongqiao are on opposite sides of the city.
