Overview

Opened on 11 May 2018 following an agreement between Sun Yat-sen University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, this is part of the SYSU family alongside the Guangzhou campuses. It passed its Grade III-A on-site review on 25 July 2022, setting the record as the fastest newly built hospital in China to achieve that grade.

It is in Guangming District — Shenzhen's science city, in the far north of the municipality — not in the central city. Patients expecting a downtown location should be warned: this is a considerable journey from Futian or Nanshan, and from the Hong Kong border. Phase 2 opened in December 2025, with a 3,200-bed phase reported as under construction.

The hospital's international medical centre, which the hospital describes as the only public tertiary-A international medical service institution in north-west Shenzhen and the only international medical centre in Guangming District. It provides outpatient and inpatient care for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots, foreign nationals, VIP patients and large international conferences and medical rescues, run under a dedicated-team, full-process model with a green channel that shortens the route to treatment, commercial health insurance direct billing, and multilingual service. The centre's own lines are staffed on working days from 08:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 17:30; the hospital's emergency department runs around the clock.
